Why More Women in the UK Are Turning to Life Coaching.

More and more women in the UK are looking for life coaches, not because they're falling apart, but because they've reached a point where simply coping doesn't feel like enough anymore.

If you've ever found yourself scrolling through your phone late at night, exhausted but unable to switch off, wondering why life feels so flat when it looks so full from the outside, you're not alone. And you're exactly the kind of woman I work with every day.

So, what's going on? Why are so many women in the UK turning to life coaching right now?

Note saying 'sweet friend, you're writing a new story & it looks nothing like your past'

The 'Fine on the Outside' Feeling Is Real

There's a kind of ‘drained’ feeling that doesn't show up on your face. You're functioning. You're keeping everything going. You go to work, are there for your family & for everyone who needs you. But inside, there's this dull feeling, a sense of disconnect, of being lost in your own life, of wondering ‘Is this it?’

For many women, this feeling builds over the years. It's not dramatic. There's no single moment of crisis. It's more like a gradual dimming of joy, of purpose, of not knowing who you actually are underneath all the roles you play.

This is one of the most common reasons women reach out to me. Not because something has gone terribly wrong, but because something is feeling out of sync inside, and they're really ready to do something about it.

Why Life Coaching and Why Now?

Woman sitting on heathland

There's been a noticeable cultural shift in the UK around mental health, emotional wellbeing and personal development. Conversations that once felt too exposed or too 'American' are becoming more normalised. Women are increasingly willing to invest in their own wellbeing, not just physically, but emotionally and psychologically too.

As a dual citizen, I appreciate both the British 'stiff upper lip' way. I also appreciate the American way that embraces personal growth for a better life. I feel time has, somewhat, moved on from the 'stiff upper lip' way in that we don't need to tolerate 'sweeping things under the carpet' and we can explore what needs to change for our peace, happiness & joy.

Life coaching sits in a unique space. It's not therapy, it doesn't focus on diagnosing or processing the past, but it does create a space for honest, supported reflection and clarity. As a former therapist turned ICF PCC certified life coach, I understand both worlds. And I've seen firsthand how powerfully coaching can move someone forward when they're ready for change but don't know where to start.

Women are also increasingly aware that the support they need doesn't have to be crisis-level to be valid. You don't have to be broken to benefit from coaching. You just have to be ready & willing to do the work.

What Women Are Actually Bringing to Coaching

In my experience, working as a coach with women across the UK and US for the past nine years, the challenges are remarkably consistent, even though the stories are all unique.

Women come to coaching when they're:

  • Stuck in overthinking — mentally replaying conversations, second-guessing every decision, tired by their own internal noise

  • Not feeling good enough — a general underlying feeling that keeps coming up

  • People pleasing — saying yes when they mean no, putting everyone else first, themselves last, and feeling resentful about it

  • Navigating a big transition — divorce, career change, empty nest, midlife, retirement, change that brings up fear, loss of identity, and uncertainty about what comes next

  • Lacking confidence — not because they're not capable, but because self-doubt has taken over

  • Feeling lost in midlife — wondering who they are in this phase of life & how to navigate the next phase with hope & fun

These aren't small things. They affect sleep, relationships, health, and happiness. And yet so many women minimise them, telling themselves they ‘should’ just get on with it & be grateful, that others have it worse, that they'll feel better soon.

Coaching creates space to stop minimising and start listening to yourself again so you can make choices.

What Life Coaching Actually Looks Like

I think there's sometimes a misconception that life coaching is about being given a surface-level plan, or having someone tell you what to do. It isn't, at least not the coaching I do.

Working with me is a deeper conversation. A real one. We explore where you are now, what's getting in the way, what you actually want (which can be surprisingly hard to articulate when you've spent years prioritising everyone else), and what steps forward feel realistic and right for you.

Sessions are held online, which means coaching is accessible wherever you are in the UK (or the US). You don't need to be in Nottinghamshire to work with me. Many of my clients are women who've never experienced coaching before and weren't sure it was ‘for them’. They often tell me afterwards that they wish they'd done it sooner, and it has to be the right time for you!

Is Life Coaching Right for You?

You don't need to have everything figured out to book a call. In fact, most women contact me precisely because they don't have things figured out.

What you do need is a willingness to be honest with yourself, a readiness to look at what's not working, and a genuine desire for things to feel different.

If you're nodding along as you read this, that's usually a good sign.

I offer a free, no-pressure 45-minute introductory call, to explore what you're looking for and whether coaching, and working with me specifically, feels like the right fit for us both. There's no obligation, no hard sell, just space to breathe and figure out what you need.
